Golf Cars Australia at the 2024 BMW PGA Australia

What an incredible week it was at the BMW Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club! As proud representatives of Club Car, Golf Cars Australia played a role in supporting the event by supplying 30 Club Car vehicles, including 2-seaters, 4-seaters, 6-seaters, and a specially equipped First Aid Ambulance. These vehicles, transported from our Gold Coast head office in four truckloads, were essential in providing smooth mobility for PGA Officials, VIPs, and government representatives throughout the championship.

A Life-Changing Victory for Elvis Smylie

The tournament will be remembered for the thrilling performance of 22-year-old Queenslander Elvis Smylie, who claimed a life-changing victory. Staring down his idol, Cameron Smith, Smylie showcased nerves of steel to secure the win, cementing his place in Australian golf history.

A Cameron Smith Scholarship winner in 2019, Smylie started the final round level with the three-time Joe Kirkwood Cup winner but showed no signs of being overwhelmed by the occasion. Two birdies early on set the tone for a composed and consistent round. As the WA Open champion last month, Smylie held his nerve, never falling behind and delivering a performance for the ages.

With birdies at the sixth and seventh holes, Smylie built momentum while competitors like Smith, Marc Leishman, and David Micheluzzi struggled to keep up. Smylie’s clutch par saves on the back nine provided a much-needed buffer, with Smith briefly closing the gap with a brilliant putt from off the green at the Dabble Party Hole.

Despite a missed birdie opportunity late in the round, Smylie held firm. Both he and Smith found the greenside trap with their approach shots on the final hole, but Smylie delivered one last stunning save to complete a 4-under 67 and secure a two-stroke victory.

Honouring Excellence

Golf Cars Australia was honoured to attend the prestigious awards evening, celebrating not only Smylie’s triumph but also the achievements of other stars in Australian golf. A special congratulations to Hannah Green, who was awarded this year’s Greg Norman Medal! 🏆👏 Hannah’s success continues to inspire golf fans around the world.
