Tee-ing off at the Australian PGA Tournament

Brett Holdway and Lachlan Sergis of Golf Cars Australia recently had the privilege of playing a PGA Pro-am game with Australian golf legend, Peter Lonard and PGA member, Dale Williamson, at Brisbane’s iconic Royal Queensland Golf Club.

A spectacular, sunny morning hinted of an amazing day ahead! Brett, our Business Development Manager (Fleet Golf) and Lachlan, our Sales and Marketing guru, were thrilled to be teamed up with these Aussie golf legends.

Golf Cars Australia was proud to be official Partner Sponsors for the Australian PGA Championships in 2022, where 60 golf vehicles were supplied for Volunteers, Rules Officials and PGA Team members to use throughout the tournaments. The invitation to play with Peter Lonard was another extraordinary way to increase Golf Cars Australia’s brand presence in the golfing community and a brilliant way to round off the PGA Australia tournament.

Was it intimidating for Brett and Lachlan to play alongside one of Australia’s top-ranking golfers? Let’s just say that as Lachlan’s first ever Pro-am game, the nerves were real. But he played some fantastic shots throughout the day and by the end, he fancied himself ready to join the LIV Golf Tour. Brett on the other hand, cool as a cucumber, has played in many events of this calibre before. Regardless, he was stoked to have a hit with PGA professional, Dale, and was flattered to meet Peter.

As an Australian golf champion, Peter has won many tournaments on the world’s stage, played the USA PGA tour for a decade, and now plays on the Legends Tour.

Our guest, Dale is an excellent golfer and is Head of Golf at Pelican Waters Golf Club. He is an exemplary role-model for Pelican Waters and Palm Lakes Group, where his passion extends to ensure members and guests always have a first-class experience.

The relaxed and friendly Pro-am game, abuzz with conversation about golf, family, kids and even fishing, was won by Cameron Smith. Another Aussie pro who took his first swing at two years of age. This year, Cameron was also awarded Player of the Year at the prestigious Greg Norman Medal Dinner and was presented The Keys to the City of Brisbane, by Lord Mayor Adrienne Schinner, during the recent Australian PGA Championships.

Cameron was guided to his maiden Major championship by award-winning coach and our Golf Cars Australia Ambassador, Grant Field. Adding to his accolades, Grant recently won the 2022 PGA QLD Coach of the Year (High Performance), for a second year in a row, at the recent Queensland Golf Industry Awards. He also won the PGA of Australia National Coach of the Year – High Performance, at the Greg Norman Medal Dinner. We couldn’t be prouder of our ambassador and his recognitions are genuinely well-deserved.

The Pro-am game was the perfect way to top the PGA Australian Championships at Australia’s finest, premiere club, Royal Queensland Golf Club. Golf Club Australia would like to thank everyone at the Australian PGA Championship for a phenomenal partnership and event this year, and we look forward to being Partner Sponsors again in future.
