The Mick Fanning 2023 Charity Golf Day

Golf tournaments have always been a popular way to combine the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and a noble cause. In a star-studded event organised by one of Australia’s legendary pro surfers, Mick Fanning, Golf Cars Australia were a proud sponsor this year and supplied a total of 110 premium Club Cars for the annual charity golf day, played at the picturesque greens of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads Golf Club on Friday 9 June.

Raised in Tweed Heads from the age of 12, the legendary Aussie surfer was an invaluable member of an incredible rescue operation during the March 2022 floods that decimated major sections of Northern NSW. After witnessing the devastation firsthand, Fanning was pulled to continue helping and was inspired to create the annual Mick Fanning Charity Golf Day, to continue helping families in need.

This extraordinary annual golfing fundraiser is a testament of the power of philanthropy and the love of golfing, which was kick-started with an official tournament launch party the night before at Balter Brewery, in Currumbin. Inside Balter’s slick and recently renovated Taproom, the atmosphere was abuzz and jam-packed with Aussie icons and some international sports peeps, all enjoying a good laugh, good beer, and great conversations.

Lachlan Sergis and Kevin Bezzina of Golf Cars Australia joined forces with Club Cars’ Kevin Gates, Vice President—Oceania and Mark Rickell, Vice President of Americas Sales for the great event.  They mingled with the likes of Aussie TV legends Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, motorcycle champion Casey Stoner, ex Rabbito’s NRL legend Luke Burgess, and the epic Inspired Unemployed duo, Jack Steele and Matt Ford.

With no rest for the wicked, the tournament morning began with a scrumptious breakfast and coffee sponsored by Blackboard Coffee and Amazonia Acai Bowls. A sharp 9.30 am shotgun marked the official start to the 2023 Mick Fanning Charity Golf Day and saw the fantastic procession of our shiny Club Cars, each sporting a name plate of the celebrity behind the wheel.

As the Club Cars rolled out on to the green, the sense of fun, frivols and friendly rivalry was in the air as was the core intent of the tournament, being to support and fundraise for the families and victims still doing it tough after last year’s mass floods.

The highly entertaining 18-hole game across two courses had a variety of sponsors at each hole to add to the entertainment, from Flamenco dancers, barber haircuts, tequila shots, taco trucks to challenges and of course, plenty of Balter Beer. At our Golf Cars Australia sponsored hole #12, participants had the opportunity to win a brand-new Club Car Tempo in exchange for a perfect hole-in-one!

Tweed Heads local, World ASP Title holder pro surfer Mark (Occy) Occhilupo had his fingers crossed to win the hole in one.

Overall, the 2023 Mick Fanning Charity Golf Day did not disappoint. With an incredible line up of sponsors along with incredible high-ticket auction prizes and bids, and an overwhelming support from the public, the tournament raised a grand total for $580,000 on the day (which will be managed by Givit) and Golf Cars Australia are beyond honoured to have been a part of this epic golfing day.
